The first half has something to behold – flare, panache and daring. There were gasps from the packed seating, horns were heard to blare from passing traffic. Moments of picturesque silence burst into flaming fields of ecstatic glee. We were hot, and we knew we were hot, like walking on sunshine, or swimming in jenkum. Goals didn’t flow but they arose at a constant rate, defense was strong, like an iron door on house of cards. There was a back heel – there was a long rage torpedo – there was desperation but most of all there was unbridled beauty.
